Information
Information You Provide
Personal information. When you join HOPE+ you provide us with your name, city, country, title and organization/company and county/province; also, country and region or area of interest, interest areas and projects. During the registration process we give you the opportunity to provide a picture. Once you register, you can visit your profile at any time to add, remove or update or restrict access to personal information.
Content. Members, Users and Visitors use HOPE+ to share profile information, content and opinions with others. Unless you remove it before uploading, any metadata associated with content you upload may be collected by us (see below).
Location & Company Information. When you share your location or company information with others or add a location or company name to something you post, we will treat this like any other content you post, including applying the provisions of the Privacy Policy.
b. Information We Collect
Site activity. We collect data on the actions you take on HOPE+, including uploading or updating a profile, a photo, or content, blogging, sending messages, sharing a link, undertaking a project, creating or adding a project or your own, joining a group or creating a group of your own, joining or creating an event and voting for projects. You are also taking an action when you provide information or content to us.
Information from Other Members. We may collect information about you from other HOPE+ members or users. Within a Project, you can limit who can see your profile (but not your photograph) by selecting the appropriate option (i.e. public, private, and only friends).
Browser, Cookie Information. When you access HOPE+ from a computer, mobile phone, or other device, we may collect information from that device about your browser type, including location, company, IP address and the pages you visit. In addition, we usually place "cookies" on your computer or mobile phone – first, when you join, second whenever you log in, and third only if you select “remember me”.
c. Sharing information on HOPE+. We endeavour to ensure information that you share on HOPE+ is used appropriately. Regrettably, we cannot guarantee that others will follow all or even any of our policies and rules.
Sharing Content. Some of the content you share and the actions you take will show up on your friends’ pages and other pages they visit.
External Sources. If you use an external source to publish information to HOPE+ (e.g., a mobile application or Connect site), the access/privacy settings for that post will be set by that external source and not by Hope+.
Removed, Restricted Content. Even after you delete your account or remove or restrict access to information in your profile, copies of that information may remain viewable elsewhere if they have been shared with others or if it was stored, copied by or otherwise provided to other users (i.e. messages or email, etc.) In any event, information may be copied by other users. Certain communications that you send to others ((i.e. blogs and messages) cannot be removed.
3. Platform. The HOPE+ platform is provided by Neighborhood America, a leading host of not-for-profit sites. By using the HOPE+ website, you are making your HOPE+ information available to someone other than HOPE+. They receive publicly available information automatically when you visit them, and additional information when you formally authorize or connect your HOPE+ account with them. Prior to allowing NA to access any information about you, we will require them to agree to terms that limit their use of your information and only if they we use electronically obtain authorized information.
4. Use of Information
We use the information we collect to try to provide a safe, efficient, and personal community experience. Among other things, we use your information to manage the service, fill out or supplement your profile and protect the safety of you and your information.
We may elect, sometime in the future, to use information from you and your friends to match you with not-for-profit and other social advertisements we may elect to serve, using relevant information we have about you and your friends. (For example, if you frequently undertake Projects in Asia, we may display your name and profile photo next to an advertisement for an Asian Project that is displayed to you and your friends. To be clear, we will only share the personally identifiable information visible in the social ad with the friend who can see the ad.
HOPE+’s core function is sharing information — amongst our members, users, visitors, participating organizations, friends and people in your network and interest areas. We share your information with third parties when we believe the sharing is authorized by you, when it is reasonably necessary to provide our services, or when legally required to do so. Examples include when you submit a project, schedule an event, search for a friend, allow friends to search you, send an email or message, improve, expand or promote our service,
We may disclose information pursuant to subpoenas, court orders, or other requests (including criminal and civil matters) if we have a good faith belief that the response is required by law. This may include respecting requests from jurisdictions outside of the United States where we have a good faith belief that the response is required by law under the local laws in that jurisdiction, apply to users from that jurisdiction, and are consistent with generally accepted international standards.
We may also share information when we have a good faith belief it is necessary to prevent fraud or other illegal activity, to prevent imminent bodily harm, or to protect ourselves and you from people violating the Terms of Use, including our house rules for posting content. This may include sharing information with third parties including other companies, lawyers, courts or other government entities.
5. Viewing, Changing, or Removing Information
Viewing and editing your profile. You may change or delete your profile information at any time by going to your profile page and clicking “Edit My Profile.” Information will be updated immediately. You can use one of the 3 settings on the info tab of your profile information page to hide all or part of it from other users.
Deactivating or deleting your account. If you want to stop using your account you may deactivate it or delete it. When you deactivate an account, no user will be able to see it, but it may not be wholly or partially deleted. We save your profile information (friends, photos, interests, etc.) in case you later decide to reactivate your account. If you temporarily deactivate your account, we will maintain your information until you reactivate your account and restore your profile. However, when you delete an account, it is permanently deleted.
Limitations on removal. After you remove information from your profile, or deactivate or delete your account, copies of that information may remain viewable elsewhere, especially if your profile has been shared, distributed, copied or stored by other users. However, your name will no longer be associated with that information on HOPE+. To prevent identity theft and other misconduct, we may retain certain information, even if deletion has been requested or completed.
Backup copies. Removed and deleted information may persist in system backup copies which will not be available to others. These back-up copies will be routinely deleted.
7. Security.
Information and Content Security. We keep your account information on a secured server. When you enter sensitive information (passwords, etc.), we encrypt that information using secure socket layer technology (SSL). We also analyze account behavior for fraudulent and inappropriate as well as non-characteristic behavior. We may remove inappropriate content or links to illegal content, and may suspend or disable accounts for violations of our Terms of Use including our House Rules for content.
International. International laws and regulations regarding safety, security, copyright, trademark, fair use, appropriate, inappropriate content and many other key areas differ as between or amongst nations. While we are a US registered organization operating wholly within the US, HOPE+ cannot be responsible for being aware of, interpreting, abiding by such nation’s laws or for taking any legal action against any non-US individual, organization or company except at its sole discretion and before courts of competent jurisdiction in the US.
Report Violations. Please report any security violations to us immediately. The easiest method is to check a “Inappropriate Material”
Inherent Risks. Despite the measures described in this Policy, no security measures are or can be perfect or impenetrable. Unfortunately, we cannot control the actions of other users with whom you share your information. Similarly, we cannot guarantee that your information will be viewed only by authorized individuals nor that it will not become publicly available. HOPE+ are not responsible for deliberate or willful or any third party violation or circumvention of this Privacy Policy or our Terms of Use. We strongly recommend that you use caution preparing your profile, sharing information especially via email, text message and blogs. We urge you to use only strong passwords and consider installing firewall and additional security software.
Conclusion
This Privacy Policy protects you, other members, users and visitors and us. We hope you will take advantage of its provisions and contact us if you have any concerns or comments. If you suspect a privacy or security violation, please notify us as soon as possible so we can investigate it.
